The Wimbish House was constructed by W. T. Downing, Atlanta's most renowned architect, for prominent Atlanta attorney William A. Wimbish as a mansion reflecting his family's social prominence. Downing was the favorite architect for Atlanta's elegant elite, and he later designed many of the city's most famous public structures. He was known for homes that were inventive and refined. This magnificent Victorian-era home features steep gables, elaborate woodwork, and large stone masonry embellishments in the eclectic French Renaissance Revival, or Chateau-esque, style.
