About Whitehall Plantation
Whitehall Plantation, which was established in 1857 for Francois Pascalis de la Barre and his family and operated as a sugar plantation until 1891, was the first of its kind in the United States. At the time, the plantation encompassed 8,000 acres that stretched from the Mississippi River to Lake Pontchartrain in southern Louisiana. According to historical records, life at Whitehall Plantation was filled with joy and celebration. Other plantation owners, their families, and friends were invited to enjoy Christmas Eve on the plantation, which made for a particularly joyous holiday season in general. The women donned their old-fashioned dresses and danced to Chopin's Minuet in G and Strauss' Vienna Woods with the males of their choosing to the tunes of Chopin's Minuet and Strauss' Vienna Woods. Because of its near proximity to New Orleans and its link to a dirt road known as Labarre Road, the property was chosen to serve as the headquarters for Union General Morgan during the Civil War. The grounds were transformed into a gambling casino in 1919, with dancing to the sounds of well-known orchestras taking place on the premises. A magnificent restaurant had been added to the manor's offerings. The meals were exquisite, the music was excellent, and, if Lady Luck was on your side, your travel back home was enjoyable as well. Magnolia Community Services now has access to Whitehall Plantation's gorgeous scenery, which is maintained by the plantation. Magnolia School, founded in 1935 by Dr. Charles Bloom, was born out of a need for specialized instruction for children and adolescents who were experiencing intellectual and developmental issues. Dr. Charles Bloom wanted to provide for his son, but he quickly learned that there were little resources available to satisfy his son's demands. As a result, Dr. Charles Bloom organized a group of businesspeople to hunt for land on which to build a school for his son. The Magnolia School was founded by private contributions and now runs as a private 501 c3 non-profit organization in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. With the knowledge that a portion of the rental price for Whitehall Plantation is donated to this deserving organization, you can feel good about yourself. We will work with you to create a wedding experience that is as special as your love for one another. For years to come, a Whitehall Plantation wedding will be remembered not just for the scenic settings, which include moss-hung oak trees and the grand staircase entry to the magnificent home, but also for the flavor, flair and attention to detail that we put into each and every event.
