Tobin Center for the Performing Arts

The Tobin Center is a local arts organization that operates on a not-for-profit basis. Its aim is to improve the overall quality of life in San Antonio by providing a venue of world-class caliber that encourages participation in a wide variety of artistic, educational, and cultural activities. This has been a necessity for a very long time. The nation's seventh-largest city now has access to a performing arts venue of international caliber and versatility. A place where students from our local schools may go to participate in exceptional performances and take advantage of specific educational possibilities. A new focal point for the redevelopment of the downtown area, to be positioned on the River Walk at the entrance to the new Museum Reach. And last but not least, a place for our local performing arts organizations to call their own where they may develop and succeed. The ancient Municipal Auditorium, which is located in the central part of the city along the banks of the River, was recently renovated into a venue of world-class standard while preserving the building's original exterior. This historic theater is once again the pride of the River and a gleaming symbol of originality, good art, and the growth of the downtown area. There is not a single location on this planet that can compare to the experience of watching and listening to a live concert. The Tobin Center includes a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose 1,750 seat (2,039 seat with flat-floor configuration) Performance Hall (both including balcony boxes in the count), a 232 seat (or 249, 266, 293, or 300 – depending on the number of additional rows added in front of the stage) Studio Theater, and an outdoor performance plaza connected to the River Walk with a permanent 32 FT video wall and water taxi portal. In addition, the Tobin Center also features The exceptional adaptability of the H-E-B Performance Hall, which can accommodate up to 1,750 guests and features a distinctive "flat-floor" capacity, paves the way for a wide variety of performances and events to take place there. The acoustics in the Hall can be "tuned" to fit the performance as well as the physical set-up of the hall. In addition, the sound insulation that is present throughout The Tobin Center makes it possible to use the Performance Hall, the Studio Theater, and the 600-seat River Walk Plaza all at the same time.
