The Pelican Inn

The name Pelican comes from Sir Francis Drake's 70-foot eighteen-gun sailor, afterwards renamed the Golden Hinde, which set sail from Plymouth, England, in November 1577 with the help and encouragement of Queen Elizabeth I to fight the Spanish power under Phillip II. Surely, Drake's epic trip, which made him the first captain to survive a round of the globe, has less to do with the appeal of the "Pelican" as a symbol of haven for wayfarers than England's ancient tradition of coastal inns. The Pelican is more than just a taste of olde England; it's also a fantastic location for weddings, meetings, banquets, Sunday brunch, or simply a place to unwind and chew the fat.
