The Music Box Village

The Music Box Village is a whimsical village of artist-made interactive "musical houses" that comes together as a result of play, imagination, experimentation, collaboration, community, and hard work. It is a place where all of these elements come together. Each installation is a product of a collaborative effort between artists based in New Orleans and elsewhere in the world, and it draws its inspiration from the one-of-a-kind musical and architectural culture of our hometown, New Orleans. In addition to hosting intensive artist residencies, performances, and panel discussions, our one-of-a-kind art site welcomes guests for the purposes of exploration and play. New Orleans Airlift is an artist-driven non-profit organization whose mission is to collaborate to inspire wonder, connect communities, and foster opportunities through arts education and the creation of experimental public artworks. Music Box Village is the organization's flagship project, and it was designed to look like a collection of music boxes. Our work in the Music Box Village pushes artistic boundaries, but more importantly, it brings together people of all walks of life for heartwarming, creative experiences. These experiences have equal appeal for a musical giant such as Norah Jones, an experimental legend such as Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), or a gaggle of five-year-olds!
