The Bend Charleston

A 20-acre community development along the storied Ashley River, The Bend represents a fresh way of thinking about how we live and form connections. The Bend's history began with a series of land grants given out by Lord Proprietors in the 1600s. The area along the historic Ashley River's bend has gone by a number of names over the past nearly 300 years, including Stock Prior, Quarter House, Accabee Plantation, Ryedale, Anna Brae, Malona, and most recently Ashley Shores, a privately owned community. The Pearlstine Company submitted a bid on the property in 2015 with the intention of renovating it. The Bend pays homage to the Ashley River's wide bend as well as the changing character of Charleston. The Bend underwent a multi-year change under the direction of Susan Pearlstine, a native of Charleston who is also an entrepreneur, business owner, philanthropist, environmentalist, community activist, and developer. Even now, the Bend is still changing. The Bend has become one of the most coveted event locations in the Charleston area as the neighborhood has safely gathered there for drive-in movies, distant graduation ceremonies, political rallies, and one of the first venues in the nation to welcome back well-known musicians for socially-distant concerts.
