About Sydonie Mansion

At one time, it was considered to be the most important residential structure in the state of Florida as a whole. James Laughlin, the owner of J&L Steel in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, had it constructed in 1883, and in 1903, the well-known architect Grosvenor Atterbury had it remodeled so that it could serve as his winter retreat. It was modeled after Alhambra Castle in Spain and was constructed in the Mediterranean Revival and Asian styles. It featured citrus groves, sculptured gardens with rare plants from around the world, a dairy farm, a power plant, and even a bowling alley. In the past, Sydonie was a preserve that encompassed 9,000 acres. The mansion reflects an era of craftsmanship that is difficult to find in contemporary homes because it has 13 fireplaces, 11 bathrooms, and 13 bedrooms. Additionally, the mansion has beautiful handcrafted wooden moldings throughout. Participate in our endeavor to return this magnificent mansion to its former splendor so that it can serve as a one-of-a-kind venue for weddings and other events, as well as a stop on the route of daily historical tours, and join us on this exciting adventure!
