About Portico

The extraordinary 55-acre Awbury Arboretum is home to Portico, which can be found in the historically significant Germantown neighborhood of Northwest Philadelphia. The Francis Cope House serves as the focal point of the Arboretum, which was formerly the private enclave of an extended Quaker family. The Arboretum is a verdant oasis in the midst of a densely populated urban environment. The home is located in a part of the Quaker community that is steeped in the values of honesty and straightforwardness. The venue has a capacity of 175 guests, and it offers outdoor dining under a white tent, as well as use of the house, its portico, and the surrounding landscape. William Saunders, who was also responsible for designing the grounds of the United States Capitol in Washington, District of Columbia, laid out the grounds of Awbury Arboretum in the 19th century in the style of an English landscape garden. They consist of a Secret Garden, as well as botanical gardens, specimen trees, meadows, wetlands, birds, native wildflowers and grasses. It is possible to take photographs and hold ceremonies in a variety of settings, each of which exudes a distinctive atmosphere: an enchanted forest, a verdant lawn, shaded clearings, an English garden, and a white-peaked tent are all equally picturesque and endearing.
