Founded in 1978 by Gary Andrus, Pine Ridge Vineyards sits in the heart of the Stags Leap District of Napa Valley, famous for Cabernet Sauvignon wines of distinctive power and elegance. Today, the winery owns estate vineyards in five premier Napa Valley appellations: Stags Leap District, Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros. Everyone on their team, from vineyard to cellar, is united in the desire to create wines that honor their remarkable origins with unique expression. At Pine Ridge Vineyards, they are committed to and have always embraced sustainable practices. They take every step we can to preserve the ecosystem of the region, and their Napa Green certification demonstrates their commitment as responsible stewards of the land. The multidisciplinary in-house Green Team meets regularly to monitor and improve their practices and to implement the latest sustainable practices, ensuring long-term viability of the business and quality of life in the community. This philosophy allows them to deliver wines that express their natural origin and will be complex and elegant for years to come. Since their founding in 1978, Pine Ridge Vineyards has invested in 160 acres of estate vineyards, 47 of which are in our home appellation, Stags Leap District. They also own vineyards throughout the most renowned growing regions of Napa Valley: Howell Mountain, Oakville, Rutherford, and Carneros. This great diversity of terroir inspires their winemaking team to craft wines that reflect the outstanding characteristics of their distinct origins. Since 2003, Gustavo Aviña, the Director of Viticulture, has worked intimately with every Pine Ridge Vineyards estate property. He and his team understand the soils and climates of the winery’s vineyards. If he had to choose a favorite, Gustavo might pick Howell Mountain. He likes the way this steeply sloping vineyard is challenging to farm; it’s also the first vineyard he developed from the ground up for Pine Ridge Vineyards. Their winemaking philosophy is guided by the thoughtful selection of vineyard blocks designated for each wine. Their goal is to honor the unique winemaking needs of each of our estate vineyards in five different appellations, as well as the ever-changing demands of each new vintage. Meticulous attention to detail in the cellar allows them to craft appellation wines that express their distinct terroir with power, elegance, and texture. The Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon blend is produced from as many as 80 different small lots—wines that showcase the complex expression of this storied winegrowing region. Our winemaking team also leads extensive barrel trials to determine the aging approaches that best enhance the personality of each wine; these programs are well-known locally for bringing winemakers together in the rustic ambiance of their caves.
