About New Orleans Museum of Art
When the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) opened its doors for the first time on December 16, 1911, it included only nine pieces of art. It is the city's oldest fine arts institution. The museum now boasts a remarkable permanent collection of more than 40,000 pieces, making it one of the largest in the world. As the collection continues to grow and expand, it will surpass all expectations as one of the most important art museums in the South. It is known for its outstanding strengths in French and American art, photography, glass, African and Japanese works, and continues to expand and grow. The twelve-acre Sydney and Walda Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA is one of the most significant sculpture installations in the United States, with over 90 sculptures set among meandering footpaths, reflecting lagoons, Spanish moss-laden 200-year-old live oaks, mature pines, magnolias, camellias, and pedestrian bridges. The sculpture garden is one of the most important sculpture installations in the United States, with over 90 sculptures set among meandering footpaths, PURPOSE: We hope to inspire and celebrate people's appreciation of art. MISSION We are dedicated to the preservation, presentation, and enrichment of our collections and internationally recognized sculpture garden; providing innovative learning and interpreting experiences; and unifying, motivating, and engaging people from all walks of life and backgrounds. It is anticipated that VISION NOMA will serve as a focal point for the arts in New Orleans, as well as an iconic presence synonymous with the city and as the premier cultural institution in the Gulf South, when completed. DIVERSITY, EQUALITY, AND INCLUSION ARE KEY VALUES. An inclusive and equitable workplace, according to NOMA, is one in which all employees, regardless of their gender, race, ethnicity, national origin (age), sexual orientation or identity (including gender expression), handicap, or educational background, feel appreciated and respected. Diversity in life experiences and history is respected and treasured; we strive to ensure that all voices are acknowledged and heard, as well as to develop a culture of open-mindedness, inclusivity, and compassion among our employees.
