About Middleburg Community Center
WHAT MAKES US WHO WE ARE The Middleburg Community Facility is unique in that it is a true community center that serves the entire town of Middleburg. Middleburg's inhabitants have worked to ensure that the Community Center has remained a clean and welcoming public facility for all since its doors first opened in 1949, with support from the community and for the community. Come take use of the picnic areas, garden, playgrounds, pool, and other outdoor places available to you. Take a class or come to one of our numerous public events to learn more about us. For additional information about forthcoming events, please see our online calendar. Join your fellow neighbors in making a donation to this historic and exquisite institution in your own backyard, and you will be helping to preserve and enhance your community. And do get in touch with us for your next event! Middleburg Community Center has been in operation since 1946. On May 18, 1946, a group of civic-minded residents got together to bring Mrs. Howell E. Jackson's idea of making Middleburg the social center of Loudoun County and Fauquier County to fruition. Mrs. Jackson's dream was to make Middleburg the social hub of Loudoun County and Fauquier County. The Middleburg Community Center opened its doors in January 1948, thanks to the generosity of the inhabitants of Middleburg and surrounding areas. The Middleburg Community Center, which boasted a magnificent ballroom, bowling alley, and swimming pool as its primary attractions, hosted approximately 500 events, including picnics, balls, bowling, swimming, movies, and tractor displays, during its first full year of operation. Over the course of the events' history, more than two million individuals have taken part in them. The Middleburg Community Center continues to serve as the community-supported social hub that it was intended to be, hosting a variety of unique private parties, educational workshops, meetings, fundraisers, and community events throughout the year. Stud Farm was established to offer the widely dispersed inhabitants of Loudoun and Fauquier Counties with access to cultural and civic amenities that were previously only available to those living in more urban regions. Because of its advantageous location midway between the county seats of Loudoun and Fauquier, Middleburg operated as the commercial, agricultural, and social hub for a much wider constituency than the town of Middleburg, which had only 606 residents at the time of the American Revolutionary War. The purpose of the Community Center, according to the original Certificate of Incorporation, is "to conduct a Community Center as a place of meeting for those engaged in all types of welfare work, education, recreation, and any and all activities of a similar character; (and) to encourage community spirit and civic work." The flurry of activity that took place over the next several years demonstrates that "community spirit and civic effort" were already well underway in Middleburg at the time of the founding.
