CAPE FLORIDA LIGHTHOUSE This lovely piece of history is located at the southern end of Key Biscayne and is the oldest standing structure in Miami-Dade County. It was built in 1825 to guide ships off the Florida Reef and is the oldest construction in the county. This fortification was built to serve as a lookout point to guard the area from pirates, Indians, and other intruders who had been posing a threat to Florida during the 1700s and early 1800s. Its history and stories are fascinating, but what is truly spectacular are the breathtaking vistas that await you once you have completed the 109 stair journey to the top.
