General Muir is a modern American restaurant inspired by the iconic New York Jewish deli, which brings it back to its handcrafted roots in the process of creation. There are traditional favorites on the menu — pastrami is cured and smoked in-house, and bagels are made by hand and kettle boiled — but they're joined by dishes that go beyond tradition, concentrating on fresh ingredients and straightforward techniques. According to co-owner Jennifer Johnson, the restaurant is named after the refugee transport ship that carried her mother and grandparents, who were Holocaust survivors, to New York in 1949. It also has an espresso bar that sells locally roasted Batdorf & Bronson coffee, as well as a complete bar that includes wine, beer, spirits, and cocktails, among other things.
