Our History The Club at Castlewood traces its origins to the famous Hacienda del Pozo de Verona estate, which was built by George and Phoebe Hearst, the parents of publishing mogul William Randolph Hearst. From 1891 to 1919, Phoebe Hearst's Hacienda, created by Julia Morgan, served as her house and sanctuary. At "the house of hospitality." hosting parties and gatherings for up to 300 people was normal. In the 53 room mansion, the Hearst's reputation for throwing a grand party was certainly upheld. Local businessmen bought the land in 1924, and the mansion served as the clubhouse for the original Castlewood Country Club. The name was chosen because it matched Phoebe's home's wooded hills and castle like aspect. Private Events at The Club at Castlewood: There is no such thing as a huge plan or a little gathering.
