About atlántico

Chef Michael Serpa's third restaurant, atlántico, is inspired by the rustic seafood eateries of Spain and Portugal. In an open and airy space, showcasing the greatest quality local and imported Spanish and Portuguese seafood. Wines from Spain and Portugal, as well as coastal-inspired cocktails, are featured on the beverage menu. The dining area boasts soaring windows that look out onto the restaurant's huge patio as well as the surrounding neighborhood. It's both casual and sophisticated, perfect for a weekend brunch with the family or a memorable night out. Michael grew up cooking. His father, grandpa, and two uncles are all Cuban chefs, and he comes from a family of them. As a kid, he used to spend his summers at his father's Miami restaurant, doing whatever he could to get on the line. Michael worked nights at local restaurants during his high school years in Pennsylvania, gaining a taste for the culinary industry. When it came time for college, he decided to drop out of Penn State (he'd be a terrible politician, anyway...) and pursue his passion for cooking. Michael moved to New York City after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Michael joined the Olives NY group in New York and worked under Chef Michael Crain. Michael moved to Boston to work at Olives in Charlestown after working at Olives in New York. He quickly took over the kitchen at the North End's Neptune Oyster. Michael began cooking at Neptune in 2008 and had a lengthy and successful tenure as executive chef, contributing to the restaurant's local and national reputation. Michael left Neptune to create Select Oyster Bar in Boston's Back Bay, which launched in April of 2015, as a way to continue to challenge himself. Michael and his wife, Lina, live in East Boston, where he met her while working in the kitchen at Neptune Oyster. Michael enjoys cycling when he is not cooking. He took part in the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Pan-Mass Challenge in 2014 and 2016, as well as the Chefs Cycle for No Kid Hungry in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Throughout the year, he continues to promote No Kid Hungry by participating in numerous humanitarian activities.
