For a typical Lowcountry occasion, many of our gorgeously designed dining rooms date back to the early 1700s. Original artwork by late Charleston artist John Carroll Doyle adorns our walls, creating the perfect Lowcountry atmosphere in each dining area. In the midst of our restaurant, a 300-year-old enormous Magnolia tree stands tall, surrounded by a turn-of-the-century courtyard that features Charleston's most charming, scenic backdrop. Our distinctive Lowcountry cuisine, which was originally pioneered right beneath our roof, is a perfect match for our 300-year-old address. Three restaurateurs developed a vision in 1982 to create a dining experience that was uniquely "Charleston," with a focus on fresh, local cuisine and courteous service. They had the perfect location in the Historic French Quarter, with three buildings and a garden courtyard, but they couldn't come up with a name. With the urgency of launching looming, Harvey Poole, Joe Sliker, and Chef Steve Kish agreed to name the restaurant after the street location. As a result, one of Charleston's oldest and most renowned restaurants was born... Queen number 82! One may imagine that a 39-year-old spectacular original would be lost in the shuffle as Charleston's culinary culture gains international attention and hot young chefs launch trendy new restaurants. Customers seeking an authentic Lowcountry experience continue to fill 82 Queen's 11 dining rooms as it sticks to its original objective of serving fresh local cuisine.
